Student Newsletter - April 16, 2007
From the Dean,
As part of the college's Distinguished Speakers Series, the Division of
Social and Behavioral Sciences will host renowned neurologist and author Oliver
Sacks. Sacks has written numerous bestselling books, including
Awakenings, The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat, and An
Anthropologist on Mars. If you have not made arrangements, I encourage you
to get your tickets through the Office of the Dean at (954) 262-8236. This event
is free and open to the public.
As the academic year comes to an end, please be aware that the registration period
for Summer and Fall 2007 is now underway. The late registration period for
Summer 2007 will begin on April 28, resulting in a $100 late fee. Your academic
advisor is available to answer any questions about registration or curriculum
requirements.
While there have been numerious achievements this year worth mentioning, I am
proud to announce that the college’s Athletic Training major has just received
national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training
Education (CAATE). With the inaugural class of athletic training students
graduating in May, this accreditation will allow them to qualify as certified
athletic trainers. I would like to congratulate the faculty, staff, and students
of the Athletic Training Education Program for their significant
achievement.
Finally, as many of you know, the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony will
take place on May 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bank Atlantic Center, located in
Sunrise, Florida. The ceremony marks the culmination of students’ undergraduate
careers at NSU, commemorating their hard work and dedication, and celebrating
entry to a larger community. The 2007 Commencement Speaker will be Antonia
Novello, M.D., the first Hispanic and first woman to serve as U.S. Surgeon
General.
For those of you who study online or at NSU's Student Educational Centers,
the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony and the Baccalaureate Reception, held
the night before in the University Center, both offer an excellent opportunity
to visit NSU’s main campus in Fort Lauderdale and meet many of the faculty,
staff, and classmates who have helped shape your undergraduate experience. I
encourage all students to attend our Commencement programs.
Sincerely,
Don Rosenblum, Ph.D.
Dean, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences

Campus Visit Day
Do you know someone interested in NSU? Tell them to come to the Campus Visit
Day. The best way to get a feel for a college is to see and experience it in
person. They will get all the information they need about academic majors, the
application process, and financial aid. They can tour campus and have a
one-on-one interview with an admissions counselor. More
