Student Newsletter - December 17, 2007

From the Dean,

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is an active part of a larger community—beyond the scope of the university. This includes our local community in south Florida, as well as national and global concerns. As a student in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, I hope that you share our commitment to serving and invigorating our various communities.

Your current and future success entails more than learning facts and figures; rather, success comes from clarifying your values, gaining personal confidence, and making connections with the broader world. Coursework and co-curricular experiences are designed to stretch your boundaries and encourage you to take risks. Learning about the history and culture of other countries, marine life in unique environments, scientific discoveries and theories from the past and present, and social science research conducted in other cultures expands your view of the world. Hopefully, this increases your appreciation for the diversity and opportunities that await you following completion of your degree program. At the same time, I hope that you discover new talents and interests within yourself—and new possibilities for the future.

In the spirit of the holidays, please take a moment to thank others who have helped you and consider the needs of others who may benefit from our attention. I wish you a safe, happy, and healthy winter break.

Sincerely,

Don Rosenblum, Ph.D.
Dean, Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences
