Dean's Corner
Students often ask me what they can do in their classes and during their college experience to distinguish themselves when applying to graduate school or seeking a professional position. These are great questions and reflect an appreciation for the role that the college plays in future success, as well as a desire to be deliberate and focused about their use of time and energy. The college offers outstanding opportunities to enhance your confidence, explore your interests, and strengthen skills that will lead to academic and professional success. In fact, employers and graduate schools—according to a national survey—agree on the most important qualities sought from college seniors: effective writing skills and critical thinking skills. This Winter semester, I encourage you to participate in or attend activities such as the Undergraduate Student Symposium and the college’s performing arts productions, both of which can offer you the chance to connect with faculty members, fellow students, and the NSU community as a whole. In addition, the college will host several diverse guest speakers throughout the semester, ranging from a Nobel Prize recipient in Medicine to a CNN news director. To further inspire you, the college will present two outstanding dance productions in February, as well as a unique opportunity for students to take a master dance class with a professional dance company. What is the best way to make yourself stand out? Be active in your education. Put one foot forward and start that next adventure. By trying different things, you not only make most of your experience as an NSU student, but you also set the stage for a successful, fulfilling life. Sincerely, Don Rosenblum, Ph.D. Upcoming Events January 23 College Basketball Night Come join the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences for “College Basketball Night,” supporting the NSU Sharks in their home basketball games against Florida Tech.
