Dean's Corner
President John F. Kennedy once said, "Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation." Education plays a vital role in empowering individuals, shaping not only their paths in life, but the future of the larger communities in which they live. Following upon Kennedy's words, I encourage you to reflect upon how your education at NSU is influencing your future. Are your studies and activities as a student moving you closer to achieving your personal dreams? How can you use your knowledge to benefit your community? Can you be a vehicle for change? These questions are a fundamental part of what drives your faculty and this college. I know that each faculty and staff member would welcome the opportunity to talk with you and listen to your goals. A distinctive quality of NSU is our commitment to student engagement and success. Thank you to all students who took the time to participate in the NSU is You survey this past fall. Several students in the college were randomly selected for prizes as a result of their participation in survey, including Brenda Van Hoose, Shadab Hayat, Ashley Murphy, and grand-prize winner Belen Ramos. The months ahead provide many more opportunities to contribute toward making your education at NSU both fulfilling and rewarding. Applications for the Undergraduate Student Symposium are now being accepted, with a deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14. The symposium provides a forum for students to present their scholarship and research, creative works, critical analyses, films, performance pieces, and public speaking presentations on a diverse range of academic subjects. As a student in the college, you have the opportunity to be a voice of innovation and progress. I hope you will consider how your education can influence and fortify your footprint in the world.
