Dean's Corner
From the Dean, When I was an undergraduate student —many years ago—summer was traditionally a time to head home from college, take a break from coursework, and reflect on the ideas and issues from the previous year – and consider upcoming classes and opportunities. Summer was also a time to work and save money toward the tuition for the upcoming school year. Times have changed; students are increasingly enrolled year-round – and possibly losing time for reflecting and anticipation. Despite the real demands in your schedules, I encourage you to reserve some time for reflection during these summer months as you juggle the responsibilities and demands of family and friends, summer classes, work and internships. Take a deep breath, congratulate yourself for the past year's accomplishments, and focus anew on your ambitions and goals. Identify areas in which you want to improve your knowledge and skills. Look out into the world to observe what's different this summer from last. What's changed? And how do those changes signal new areas and opportunities in which you want to play a part and make a difference? Summer is a good time for this open reflection, and for the planning that turns ideas into actions. Contact your professors and academic advisors to consider how your fall schedule and activities will further your goals and plans. Think about classes you want to take and research projects you want to design under faculty mentorship. Your professors and advisors are excited to help you be creative about your studies and develop challenging programs. Sincerely, Don Rosenblum, Ph.D. Scholarship and Internship Opportunities Eleanor Sobel, Candidate for State Senate, is looking for Campaign Interns Eleanor Sobel, a candidate for Florida's State Senate, District 31, is looking for motivated and hardworking graduate and undergraduate students to intern with the campaign. A political campaign is a great way for students to network and build their resumes. Interns will be involved in every campaign function including attending events, preparing campaign events, making phone calls, distributing campaign literature, direct voter contact, and organizing campaign volunteers. Please visit the campaign website at www.Sobel2008.com to learn more about the campaign. If interested, please contact Nick Matthews, campaign manager, at nmatthews1984@gmail.com.
