From the Dean
I am very enthusiastic about the growth in quality, reputation, and programs of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. This is especially evident each summer as we prepare for the fall debut of new academic programs and welcome new faculty members into our ranks of dedicated instructors and researchers. This fall we will launch our new major in sociology, a significant step in further developing the college's offerings in the social sciences. We will also begin offering four new majors in the performing and visual arts: art, arts administration, dance, and music (adding to our already active theatre major and co-curricular performing arts programs). The emergence of these new arts majors coincides with completion of a bright new home for creative expression. The Performing and Visual Arts Wing of the University Center will open its doors on NSU's main campus this fall. Look for information on a grand opening to be held in October. The facility will include performance and black box theaters; scene and costume shops; a dance studio; orchestra, choral, and music practice rooms; and music keyboard and technology labs. It will provide space for studios dedicated to painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. Courses in these areas will be available to all students – as elective courses or supporting a major or minor area of study. This adds an exciting option for every student. The new wing will house the college's growing arts faculty and performing and visual arts curricula. The Performing and Visual Arts Wing will also begin a new era for the university as a significant contributor to South Florida in terms of theater, dance, music, and the visual arts. Creative expression will take center stage this fall. I hope you will join me in October for our grand opening celebration and I encourage you to consider ways to incorporate the Performing and Visual Arts into your studies and co-curricular pursuits. Sincerely, Don Rosenblum, Ph.D. Scholarship and Internship Opportunities Eleanor Sobel, Candidate for State Senate, is looking for Campaign Interns Eleanor Sobel, a candidate for Florida's State Senate, District 31, is looking for motivated and hardworking graduate and undergraduate students to intern with the campaign. A political campaign is a great way for students to network and build their resumes. Interns will be involved in every campaign function including attending events, preparing campaign events, making phone calls, distributing campaign literature, direct voter contact, and organizing campaign volunteers. Please visit the campaign website at www.Sobel2008.com to learn more about the campaign. If interested, please contact Nick Matthews, campaign manager, at nmatthews1984@gmail.com.
