Student Newsletter - August 2008
From the Dean
I am pleased to welcome you to the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences for the 2008–2009 academic year. As you prepare for classes, you will undoubtedly have questions relating to your academic or personal experience at NSU. The college is here to assist you at each step of your journey in higher education. Your most important resource is your college faculty, who can provide guidance regarding coursework; give information on research, internship, and travel study opportunities; share their expertise in a particular discipline; and simply act as a sounding board for your academic concerns. Your academic advisor can also provide valuable information relating to course registration, major curricula, academic policies, requesting a transfer of credits, and other issues. The Office of Academic Services (OAS) offers all NSU students free tutoring to bolster writing skills and complement courses in math, science, business, and technology. OAS also administers challenge exams for students hoping to test out of certain writing, math, science, or technology courses. The NSU Undergraduate Student Catalog is another invaluable resource for information about curriculum requirements and academic policies. Throughout the year, the college will communicate important opportunities and events by sending you this monthly student newsletter. All of the information in the student newsletter can also be found online at www.undergrad.nova.edu, within our online college event calendar and through announcements displayed on our homepage. Photos from many of our events are available in our digital Photo Gallery. This year, the academic theme for the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will be “Life and Death.” Many of our courses and college activities will center around the examination of life and death within diverse academic contexts. I encourage you to participate in these co-curricular experiences, which unite our community in interdisciplinary exploration. Whether you are just beginning or continuing on the path toward graduation, I look forward to sharing an exciting and stimulating new year with you. Sincerely, Don Rosenblum, Ph.D. Welcome Week Events - Highlights Tuesday, August 26 Academic Engagement: New Student Welcome Reception Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences students are encouraged to come to have lunch with academic advisors and academic support services staff.
