Physician Assistant
Description
Physician assistants conduct physical examinations, treat illnesses, assist in surgery, and perform other activities under the supervision of physicians. The NSU physician assistant master of medical science degree (M.M.S.) is offered through the Health Professions Division’s College of Allied Health and Nursing.
Requirements
The physician assistant Dual Admission Program is restricted to entering freshmen. Candidates are required to pursue a bachelor's degree in athletic training or biology. They must achieve at minimum, one of three high school GPA/SAT score combinations: 3.3 GPA/1100 SAT, 3.5 GPA/1080 SAT, or 3.8 GPA/1050 SAT. In addition, candidates must have two years of mathematics (through algebra 2), three years of science (including biology and chemistry), and four years of English.
The physician assistant Dual Admission Program normally requires three years of undergraduate education and 27 months of graduate study. After successfully completing one year in the graduate program, the student is eligible to receive a bachelor’s degree from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.
In addition to an undergraduate studies application, a dual admissions application must be submitted along with three references. One from a high school science teacher, one from a guidance counselor, and one from someone outside academia. A preadmissions interview is required.
