Gain Real-World Experience and Build Connections
Who you know is just as important as what you know. Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will connect you to prospective employers. Give your resume and portfolio the NSU Edge with internships and shadowing opportunities. Both are great avenues for networking with people who could be career connections in a few years.
Launch your career as a marketing professional, or learn what a marine biologist does on the job. Internships are temporary positions for a predetermined amount of time that let you gain significant experience and show off your potential to prospective employers. Job shadowing is following an employee during his or her day-to-day tasks to determine whether the job and/or industry is right for you. These experiences can cultivate your passion and interest or help you discover deal breakers before you invest too much in a career path.
There are tons of ways to find internships and job-shadowing opportunities:
- Reach out to your professors. They’re often working professionals that have insight into opportunities.
- Introduce yourself to companies and organizations to find out if they’re hiring. They don’t have to be affiliated with NSU, but they do have to meet the criteria established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
- Work with your Edge Adviser to find opportunities.
- Attend campus recruiting events, such as the Recruit a Shark Career Expo.
- Search openings on Handshake.
- Reach out to the NSU Career Development team.
Internships and job shadowing offer students a competitive advantage in a competitive world. Your dedicated Edge Adviser will guide your career planning and ensure you get the practical experience you need to build a strong portfolio.

Get a Career Preview Through Job Shadowing
