Case Competitions

Earn at least one ExEL unit per experience.

Case competitions are a chance to network with future employers and gain hands-on experience. Come together with your fellow Sharks as part of a team to solve a case in front of a judging panel comprising senior-level executives and NSU faculty. Using teamwork and critical-thinking, analytical, and organizational skills, you’ll solve real-world professional problems.

Clinic Exploration Program (CEP)

Earn at least one ExEL unit per experience.

Interested in learning about medical career paths? Shadow a doctor, nurse, or other medical staff at NSU’s medical and health clinics, and gain hands-on, practical experience. Each rotation lasts two hours per week for three weeks in the CEP at the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences. No matter what your major is, you can participate in CEP.

Internships

Earn one to two ExEL units per experience.

Part time or full time, a few weeks or an entire semester, paid or unpaid—dedicating the time to become an intern will give you great anecdotes to share during future job interviews.

Mock Trial

Earn two ExEL units per experience.

Join the NSU undergraduate mock trial team, and get a preview of the life of a trial lawyer. This experience will enhance your critical thinking and teach you effective communication and professional development.

Model United Nations

Earn two ExEL units per experience.

Play the role of delegates from 193 member states, and attempt to solve real-world issues. Get a taste of what the United Nations has been doing for decades. You’ll get the chance to compete at the Florida Model United Nations Conference and the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference. Sharks have even traveled to international competitions in the past.

NSU Mako Media Network

Earn at least one ExEL unit per experience.

Students will gain knowledge regarding a particular media platform/channel and how to apply industry-specific solutions. Students will analyze complex information and synthesize information for problem-solving, ultimately producing diverse media products for one or more of NSU’s media channels (newspaper, television, and radio). Students gain experience with journalistic elements, such as writing, interviewing, reporting, copywriting, editing, design, and delivery. Shark Shadow

Earn at least one ExEL unit per experience.

Job shadowing is following an employee during his or her day-to-day tasks to determine whether the job and/or industry is right for you. These experiences can cultivate your passion and interest or help you discover deal breakers before you invest too much into a career path.

Writing and Communication Center (WCC) Peer Consultant

Earn one to two ExEL units per experience.

Is writing your superpower? Serve as a writing fellow at the WCC. You’ll attend special writing-enriched courses and help your peers with their writing assignments.
