Know Where You're Going—and Get There Faster!
Some of NSU’s dual admission programs in health care offer accelerated tracks, providing you with a quicker path to your professional degree by allowing you to transition into your professional program after two or three years. You’ve worked hard and know what it takes to succeed, and our outstanding accelerated programs focus on rigorous academics and experiential learning to give you the NSU Edge.
Save time and start practicing even sooner in a field that is in-demand and growing fast. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates at least a 14% increase in employment across the health care field—much higher than the national average.
Eligible students will typically have the option to select from:
- An accelerated 2+ track (by invitation only): 2 years of undergraduate coursework, followed by 4 years of professional school, or
- An accelerated 3+ track: 3 years of undergraduate coursework, and skip the senior year before professional school, based on availability

You're Dedicated to Improving Health CareTo be eligible for an accelerated track offered by a Dual Admission Program, a student must:
NSU's Accelerated Dual Admission Program
The accelerated options offer a faster path to a professional degree by allowing earlier transition into professional school. While all degree requirements and prerequisites must be completed, some open electives may be waived.
- 2+4 program: Students to earn a B.S. in Medical Science after two years of undergraduate study and successful completion of the first year of professional school.
- 3+4 program: The first year of professional school counts as the senior year of undergraduate study, with the degree awarded after that year and successful completion of the first year of professional school.
Applicants are admitted to the Dual Program, but NSU determines their specific track (2+, 3+, or 4+) based on a student's previous academic rigor. Acceptance into an accelerated track should be considered carefully, as changes after enrollment are not guaranteed.
Available for Allopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Pharmacy.
This program is for high school students who are professional bound and are high-achieving. Students must have excelled in high school and have already earned 30 college credits accepted by NSU, including college-level chemistry and mathematics.
The B.S. in Medical Science offers a unique opportunity to shorten the duration of your undergraduate and professional school education.
* 2+ Program is by invitation only.
VERY IMPORTANT:
- Dual Pre-Health Professions Programs: We do not recommend the 2+4 track if a student will not be able to take Organic Chemistry/CHEM2400 during their first semester.
Available for Allopathic Medicine, Anesthesiology Assistant, Dental Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, and Physician's Assistant.
Since this is an accelerated track, it is typically selected by students for whom the following apply:
- Are committed to transitioning to professional school one year earlier and foregoing the undergraduate senior year.
- Are bringing in a substantial amount of college earned credits (usually 30 or more), specifically in chemistry and other sciences.
- If necessary, would take Summer courses to stay on the accelerated 3+4 track.
VERY IMPORTANT:
- We do not recommend the 3+4 track if a student will not be able to take BIOL 1500 and CHEM 1300 during the first semester.
- It is very important to take the chemistry sequence of courses without interruption beginning the first Freshman semester on. CHEM 3660 Biochemistry 1 should be completed prior to taking the graduate entrance exam. Based on this timeline, unless a student transfers in college level general chemistry credit, they will have to take at least one summer chemistry class at NSU in order to stay on track to be prepared for the MCAT if they are following the 3+ program for medical school.
Transfer students are not eligible to apply to this Health and Medical Professions Dual Admission program. Only students coming to NSU in the fall semester as first-time college freshman applicants are eligible to apply.
We have a growing number of students who are bringing in more and more college credits to NSU. Once these credits are applied, if they are equivalent to NSU courses, students will not have to retake them at NSU, even if they are pre-requisites for their dual admission program.
College credits that were earned through advanced high school programs such as AP, IB or college academy—or in summer coursework following high school graduation, prior to attending NSU—may transfer to NSU. However, we strongly encourage students to take a majority of their specific science program pre-requisites at NSU to highlight their competency in these critical domains and maximize their long-term profile for future graduate/professional school candidacy.
However, students may choose to “retake” these courses if they wish to ensure that they have a firm handle on the academic material. This is not required but some students do decide to do this in courses such as chemistry. If this is decided, it should be discussed with the academic adviser and a “credit award adjustment form” may need to be filled out to avoid possible financial aid implications.
Review NSU's Transfer Evaluation Services for undergraduate students for more information regarding transferring college credit and credits based on examination scores.
