Housing Check In Step-by-step
1. Check and Satisfy Your Student Balance
Before you can move in, your student account balance needs to be satisfied by one or more of the following methods:
- Have a financial aid package that covers your entire institutional costs
- Sign up for the NSU payment plan
If your account balance is not completely accounted for, you will need to meet with an Enrollment and Student Services (ESS) representative at the Welcome Center in the Horvitz Administration Building prior to your assigned move-in day.
Schedule an appointment with an ESS rep by calling (954) 262-5200.
2. Request Your Shark Card (New Students)
You’ll need your SharkCard to access your room on check-in day. Request your SharkCard from SharkCard Services a week prior to check-in (and after you’ve registered for classes).
3. Check Your Room Assignment and Fill Out Emergency Forms in the Housing Portal
Log in to the Housing Portal to check and confirm your room assignment.
Additionally, complete all Emergency Forms—Emergency Contact, Missing Persons, and Hurricane Response—48 hours prior to your assigned check-in time.
4. Review Checklists and Bed Linen Requirements
We put together a checklist (XLS) to help you prepare for move-in. It covers everything from electronics, storage ideas, kitchen and cleaning essentials, and toiletries to shared items that you’ll want to coordinate with potential roommates.
All residence halls are furnished with Twin XL beds except for:
Mako Hall: Full XL
Rolling Hills A and C studios: Queen
5. Arrival on Campus on Move-In Day
You’ll receive your room key, mailing address, Room Assessment Form (see step 6 below), and other pertinent information.
6. Review Room Assessment Form
Your Resident Assistant will review the condition of your room prior to Move-In Day and notate their assessment on the Room Assessment Form.
It is your responsibility to review your Room Assessment Form and confirm that it accurately reflects the condition of your room. If you need to amend the form with corrections, you have 24 hours from your move-in date to contact your Resident Assistant for a reassessment.

How to Schedule an Appointment in Navigate
- Select "Schedule an Appointment"
- Follow the prompts, then select the appointment type that you are seeking.
- Select where you would like the appointment and with which adviser.
- Pick a time that works for you and confirm your appointment.
Drop-In Advising Hours
Drop-in advising is available via phone or in-person for students who have quick questions or something very time sensitive that they need to discuss with an adviser. Drop-in meetings are usually limited to 15 minutes in length, and no appointment is needed for a drop-in meeting.
CAPS Labs
Looking to work on your professional and academic goals in a relaxed and collaborative environment? CAPS Labs may be the perfect avenue to do so in real-time! CAPS Labs take place in the Mako Hall - Multipurpose Room.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) is here to help students and parents understand the financial aspect of their college education. The Bursar Office is responsible for the collection of tuition/fees, issuing refunds, and sending invoices/receipts.

NSU provides numerous student employment opportunities and students can participate in either need-based programs such as Federal Work-Study or non-need-based programs such NSU Student Employment Program.
How to Apply for Student Employment
- Self-enroll in and complete the online Student Employment Workshop.
- After successfully passing the workshop quiz, login to SharkLink and click on the green JobX tile in the quick links section and complete an employment application. How to use JobX
- Supervisors who are interested in learning more about your qualifications will contact you to set up an interview or request additional documents, such as a Form I-9.

Team of Tutors is a great opportunity for students looking to work part-time. The hours are tailored to your class schedule and can vary from 10-20 hours per week.

Experiential Education & Learning (ExEL)
Undergraduate students at NSU are required to earn 6 units of ExEL prior to graduation.
See below the six pillars in which students can earn those ExEL units:

Please know that your students are not alone in this process. They will have a designated Edge Adviser to assist them in developing a unique ExEL experience for their specific interests and passions.
To ensure your students are guided and supported from the very beginning, all freshman students are required to take the course UNIV 1000 as part of the First Year Experience (FYE). Earning 3 credits, freshman students will have a faculty/staff instructor and peer leader to help them learn more about the resources and opportunities available to students at NSU.
Henderson Student Counseling Services is now, the Center for Student Counseling and Well-Being. Their new location is on the 3rd floor of the Student Affairs Building. A variety of support, services, and programming will be provided to students.

Shipping Packages Before Move-In: You may ship a total of six (6) boxes in advance of move-in, to be delivered and/or picked up upon arrival. Check with Housing on when you can begin to ship items.
Shipping Packages Before Move-In DOES NOT APPLY to students living at University Pointe Apartments.
Please note: Mail Services will place large/oversized packages into the student’s room prior to move-in (refrigerators, linen boxes, etc.). To utilize this free service, please ensure all items are delivered before their deadline (contact Housing for more information). If you receive an oversized package after the deadline, you will receive an email notification with instructions to pick-up from the Commons package room, #115. You will only need to visit the package room if you receive an oversized item that does not fit into one of the lockers. All other items that meet the size requirement will be placed in a package locker.

Once perishable item is received, all communications from Mail Services to students is through student e-mail @mynsu.nova.edu for notification and to coordinate delivery or pick-up time. Perishable items not picked-up after 5 business days will be discarded.
Please note: Mail Services does NOT accept deliveries from Instacart, UberEats, GrubHub, or any other app service that delivers groceries or perishables. For these deliveries, students must plan to meet the delivery driver for direct hand-off.

It is always important to be prepared for Hurricanes while in Florida.

When student's register, their identification code is their NSU "N" Number and when prompted, they can enter multiple phone/text numbers and email addresses (*please add numbers without dashes)
In any case of an emergency, especially related to hurricanes, NSU's website (nova.edu/emergency) and hotline (954-262-7300) will contain the most up-to-date information on campus closings, event cancellations, and reopenings. New information will be posted as frequently as warranted.
We encourage students and families to review other resources available to them by visiting nova.edu/emergency as well as familiarizing with the Severe Weather Emergency Procedures (PDF) brochure.
